Water Quality
The District's water quality program is comprised of technical services and cost share programs through U.S. Department of Agriculture's Natural Resources Conservation Service The technical services provided at no cost are site visits, planning and design services and construction checks. The designs can be for any sort of agricultural Best Management Practice (BMP).
Below are six common agricultural designs that help protect water quality using filtration and flow control principles:
Water and sediment control basin (WASCOB) pools and
releases water slowly into subsurface tile.
Stream bank stabilization using rock weirs to
deflect water flow away from the bank
Grass buffers protect streams by filtering sediment
and nutrients from surface runoff.
Ponds serve many purposes: fire protection, water
for livestock, recreation and wildlife habitat.
Wetlands provide wildlife habitat, filtration, and
storage of runoff.
Grass waterways filter surface runoff and prevent
gully formation.
