Envirothon
Held annually in the spring; academic / field
competition for high school students in the areas of: soils, forestry,
aquatics, Wildlife, and Current Environmental Issues; showcases
careers in natural resource conservation through the use of resource
specialists for presentations; local, regional, state and national
levels of competition.

Land Judging
Held annually in the fall; academic / field
competition for high school students in Vocational-Agriculture
programs; students learn to make land use decisions based on
suitability of various soil types.

Conservation Poster Contest
Suitable project for art, science, or social studies
students; competition categories are
K-1st, 2nd-3rd,
4th-6th, 7th-9th, 10th-12th.
Deadline for submissions each spring is May 1st;
annual theme announced each January.

Children’s Water Festival
Montgomery SWCD participates in this regional
event in early May; nearly 40 Miami Valley organizations and
businesses come together to present classroom sessions, entertainment,
outside activities and demonstrations related to the many aspects of
water as a vital natural resource; several thousand fifth graders from
approximately 50 area schools gather on the campus of The University
of Dayton.

Natural Resource / Agriculture Scholarship
Each spring the District awards a $250 scholarship to a
selected candidate planning to enroll in a baccalaureate or associates
program in natural resource management or agriculture.
Applications are reviewed by District staff.

Forestry Camp Sponsorship
The Ohio Forestry Association organizes a summer residence
camp for high school students each June in Carroll County’s Camp
Muskingum. Students
participate in classes on tree identification, silviculture, ecology,
and forest products. Montgomery SWCD contributes $125 toward the
approximately $200 camping fee for a selected applicant.
The Ohio Forestry Association also awards grants to students majoring
in natural resource management in college.
