Student Programs
Envirothon
Annual competitive outdoor event testing skills and knowledge of
natural resources in the areas of soils, aquatics, forestry,
wildlife and current environmental issues. Up to two,
five-member teams from any Montgomery County high school (grades
9-12) are eligible to participate. Four levels of competition
involve local, regional, state, and North American (includes
Canadian provinces). Study materials and other information
available at the Area IV
Envirothon, and the Canon
Envirothon.
Land Judging
Annual competitive outdoor event testing skills and knowledge of
soils, particularly in regard to capabilities and limitations for
human use. Open to FFA program students only. The event
is held each September.
Poster Contest
Annual competitive contest each spring, open to K-12 youth. A
different theme each year follows that of the National Association
of Conservation District's Soil and Water Stewardship week.
Entries are judged on conservation message and visual effects. For

Scholarship
Annual spring competition for $500 scholarship, for graduating high
school seniors planning to major in natural resources management or
agriculture. Deadline each year is May 1st. for more

Research and Service
Project Assistance
The District Education Specialist is available to help students
organize research and environmental service projects.
Resources available include planning assistance, lending library,
networking connections.
Presentations by Request
Various slide shows, field trips, and learning activities can be
arranged that address soil and water ecosystems and conservation
issues. Contact District Education Specialist to make
arrangements.
